I ran the first 80 odd kilometres in these shoes during the winter and spring where the studded sole provided good mid range grip on my trail runs. As previously reported I was disappointed with the change in the heel arrangement with these and other shoes which started to put pressure on my Achilles tendon. My summer shoes – Inov8 f-lite 190s – however have caused me some serious issues and therefore I chose to return to my winter shoe in the knowledge that they were comfortable to run in. This has proven to be a wise choice. These shoes, like the previous incarnation, are extremely good shoes to run in on both the trail and the road. I like this versatility and like the way these shoes seem to encourage good running form. So, early worries aside, Inov8 have replaced probably their best shoe which was sadly let down by tears in the fabric with a worthy and more robust successor.
…and easing myself back into the training…
The plan was for 4 x 4 x 400m off 2 minutes with 400m recovery between sets.
Having missed the warm up I used the first set to get up to speed, work hard on the second set, blitz one rep in the third and then recover to finish on just 3 x 4 x 400m
rep times: 1:39, 1:36, 1:30, 1:22; 1:20, 1:20, 1:21, 1:21; 1:16, 1:39, 1:35, 1:30.
The main sets were run in Newton Distance and the quick lap in Inov8 Tri Xtreme 225s
Another longish run on Sunday in the new Inov8 X Talon 190s. Much of the deer park and woodland is still extremely soggy but it was great to be running in the sunshine for what feels like the first time in months – which it probably is, My legs are struggling a little with what is now my 39th run of the year. None of them have been over strenuous as my return to fitness continues however the total number is obviously beginning to take its toll. My hip flexors in particular are feeling the strain and I need to get back into the good routine of mobility exercises and stretching! A good 13.1 km run this morning and my enthusiasm is again restored – bring on the summer!
To get my 6 runs in this week I needed to do a double day and, despite the strong winds and soggy ground I managed two runs around the 5k Park Run route in Woburn. It was yet another final chance to wear my old Inov8 X Talons despite the splitting sides. The morning run was pretty un eventful but the dusk run was gorgeous with a red skyline in the west, lots of deer in the park and the abbey lit up against a darkening sky in the east.
