I don’t often let the cycling interfere with a running blog, however we had the pleasure of doing some testing with top triathlete and duathlete Stu McGowan. A progressive lactate test with his bike firmly bolted onto the turbo trainer…..power values increasing by 20 watts every 3 minutes starting from 100 watts. 36 minutes later he was topping out at 320 watts. I ran the same test on myself the following day with Sarah doing the lactate levels so that we had something to compare. I had trouble holding 320 watts and was bouncing between 305 and 315. The answer from the lactate levels – stu has a far greater aerobic capacity and I have a greater anaerobic one.
