…with the Althorp Duathlon and the Apex Chiltern Cross Country league both falling on the same day. Suffice to say I was foolish enough to do both!
althorp was a European Sprint duathlon qualifier and, although coming late season and in not knowing where the euros will be, I still felt that it was worth getting an early qualification slot.
i was slightly slower than in March over the same course but the conditions ere worse. I wore my Inov8 FLite 195s which are a good trail shoe for the opening and closing 5km runs and, of course I rode my Cervelo P3c for the 20km ride.
i didn’t do as well as I would have liked on the ride. Partly because the roads surface as poor but also because the drafting was making over taking difficult and hazardous.Despite this I got round ok and finished 3rd in cat which is good enough to qualify.
i then packed up and drove down the M1 to Cassiobury Park for the cross country. On tired legs I ran the 10k in my Inov8 XTalons which coped well with the muddy trails. 51st in cat will do and it help Leighton Buzzard Triathlon club’s male team to finish 6th….our best finish to date!
